The Primary Montessori classroom is a thoughtfully prepared, multi-age environment for children between 3 and 6 years old. This three-year classroom community brings younger and older children together, giving them opportunities to observe, cooperate, lead, and learn from one another.<\/span><\/p>

The curriculum includes Mathematics, Language Arts, Cultural Studies, Practical Life, and Sensorial Education. Practical Life activities teach children useful everyday skills such as washing, polishing, folding, buttoning, zipping, buckling, transferring, and pouring. These purposeful tasks encourage independence and help children learn how to care for themselves and their environment.<\/span><\/p>

The activities also strengthen fine and large motor coordination, concentration, sequencing, and attention to detail. Many materials are arranged from left to right, helping prepare children for the visual patterns used in reading and writing.<\/span><\/p>

Sensorial Education<\/span><\/h3>

Sensorial Education helps children understand and organize information received through sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Specially designed materials allow them to identify, compare, classify, and describe the qualities of the world around them.<\/span><\/p>

Children explore colors, shapes, sizes, textures, temperatures, sounds, geometric forms, and dimensional differences. They also learn precise vocabulary to describe what they observe. Materials such as the Binomial Cube and Trinomial Cube are first explored through visual and spatial patterns before their mathematical meaning is introduced at a later stage.<\/span><\/p>

These activities create an important foundation for mathematics, science, geometry, and logical thinking.<\/span><\/p>

Montessori Mathematics<\/span><\/h3>

Montessori Mathematics begins by helping children connect quantities with their written symbols. Instead of simply memorizing a numeral, children develop a clear understanding of the amount it represents.<\/span><\/p>

As their abilities grow, children are introduced to counting, number order, the decimal system, place value, and mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
