A Gentle Bridge from Toddlerhood to Greater Independence

Our Pre-Primary Program supports children who are ready to move beyond the toddler stage but are still developing the skills needed for the Primary classroom. It also welcomes children who are working toward toilet independence, providing patient guidance and respectful support throughout this important transition.

During this stage, children begin forming routines, expressing preferences, and discovering new ways to communicate. It is an ideal time to encourage curiosity, strengthen independence, and establish positive habits that support future learning.

Learning Through Movement, Language, and the Senses

The Pre-Primary classroom at Pinnacle Montessori of Sherman at Dorchester offers a sensory-rich approach to early education. Children learn by observing demonstrations, listening to language, moving their bodies, and working with materials they can touch, sort, match, and arrange.

By presenting concepts in several meaningful ways, our teachers help children remain interested and actively involved. Each activity is selected to match the child’s developmental readiness while inviting exploration, repetition, and discovery.

Supporting Language, Mathematics, and Social Development

Language grows rapidly during the Pre-Primary years. Teachers introduce new vocabulary through conversations, songs, stories, object-naming activities, and daily classroom experiences. Children are encouraged to express their needs, listen to others, and become more confident communicators.

Early literacy experiences help children notice sounds, recognize familiar symbols, and begin making connections between spoken and written language. Materials such as sandpaper letters provide a concrete introduction to letter shapes and sounds.

Mathematics is introduced through activities involving counting, sorting, matching, comparing, and recognizing quantities. Children work with number counters and other Montessori materials that make early mathematical ideas clear and understandable.

Social development is supported through shared activities, cooperative play, and respectful classroom routines. Children practice waiting, taking turns, caring for materials, and communicating with classmates. These everyday experiences help build empathy, patience, and a sense of community.

A Joyful Step Toward Independence

Our teachers introduce lessons that spark curiosity while reinforcing familiar skills. Children may return to an activity as often as needed, allowing them to improve through repetition and experience the satisfaction of completing a task independently.

Daily routines also encourage children to care for themselves and their environment. Simple responsibilities, such as putting materials away, cleaning a workspace, washing hands, or helping prepare a snack, strengthen coordination, concentration, confidence, and responsibility.

The Pre-Primary Program at Pinnacle Montessori of Sherman at Dorchester provides a warm and purposeful beginning to early education. We are honored to guide children as they develop confidence, explore their surroundings, and prepare for the next stage of their Montessori journey.
