Our bright, thoughtfully designed Lower Elementary classroom is filled with natural light and large windows that provide children with a beautiful view of nature while they engage in meaningful learning experiences.
The Lower Elementary classroom consists of a mixed-age community of children 6 to 9 years of age, encompassing Grades 1 through 3. At this stage, students begin developing greater independence and personal responsibility while strengthening their academic abilities. One of the most important skills introduced during these years is time management. Children learn to organize their work, manage assignments, and take responsibility for completing tasks, all while receiving the guidance and support of their Montessori teachers.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children should first experience success before learning how to navigate setbacks with confidence and resilience. In the Elementary classroom, students are gradually introduced to greater responsibility in a supportive environment. If a lesson is not completed on time, it becomes an opportunity for reflection, problem-solving, and growth rather than failure. New challenges are introduced one step at a time, allowing children to build confidence without becoming overwhelmed.
The concrete concepts explored during the Primary years now evolve into more abstract thinking. Students begin making deeper connections, applying critical thinking skills, and developing a greater understanding across all subject areas.
